The preferred highway concept design developed by South Metro Connect forms the basis of the Environmental Impact Assessment that is subject to both the state and commonwealth approval process.
The public comment period for submissions on the Roe Highway Extension Public Environmental Review (PER) closed in September 2011.
South Metro Connect submitted the response to submissions report in July 2012. The Roe Highway extension has been recommended for conditional approval by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) which released its report on 13 September 2013, followed by a two-week public appeals period.
The decision on whether the project will be approved is now with the Minister for Environment who is currently considering appeals against the EPA Report. Timing for completion of this process is unknown but is expected in 2014.
