Community Survey - October 2009

The information in these information sheets was correct at the time of publication and has been retained without change as a record of processes for the project development phase of the Roe Highway Extension. Some of the information may be superseded by more recent documents, including the project’s Public Environmental Review document.

The first community survey was completed in October 2009 as part of a series of three surveys to gauge the views and opinions of the public and to guide the community engagement process for the Roe Highway Extension project.

The survey was targeted at an even male to female ratio of respondents in the 18 and over age group. Two surveys were completed, the first a flashpoll which was a brief questionnaire to assess the community sentiment among residents living in the whole of WA, and the second was a broader questionnaire developed to assess community sentiment among residents living in the south metropolitan region. The survey sample included different target geographical areas.

Approximately four hundred people were sampled from the whole of Western Australia in the flashpoll with three hundred of those from the Perth metropolitan area. Samples of approximately eight hundred from the ‘probable beneficial area’ (residents living in the suburbs south of the Swan River from Fremantle to Perth Airport and south to South Lake) and four hundred from the materially affected area (those people falling within an imaginary boundary that generally runs just north of Leach Highway, just east of Kwinana Freeway, south to Beeliar Drive and west to Carrington Street) were used for the main part of the survey.

Please see the map and boundaries on page 9 of the Patterson's Report 2009 for more detail on the geographical areas.
