On 15 June, 2010, the Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) approved the Environmental Scoping Document (ESD) for the proposed Roe Highway Extension.

In accordance with the Bilateral Agreement between the Commonwealth and the State, the
ESD and the Public Environmental Review document (PER) have been submitted to the EPA. The project was referred to the EPA in April 2009 and the Commonwealth Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities (DSEWPaC formerly DEWHA) in July 2009. Thereafter, the Bilateral Agreement was enacted. In November 2009, the EPA set the level of assessment for the proposal at PER.

The ESD was approved by the EPA as an acceptable basis for the preparation of the PER document.
