South Metro Connect is pleased to announce the release of both the preferred concept design and an accompanying brochure for the proposed Roe Highway Extension.

The preferred concept design is available for download in a number of formats, which will assist those who are seeking greater detail. This includes a drawing showing the proposed location of the Principal Shared Path.

The brochure provides a summary of the project to date, including the community and stakeholder engagement and environmental approvals processes. The various aspects of the preferred concept design and how the environmental impacts will be managed are also explained.

For the past two years, the South Metro Connect team has worked closely with interested members of the community and stakeholders to produce the preferred concept design. Three design workshops and two Multi Criteria Analysis/ option selection workshops were held in 2010, in which people were given the opportunity to influence the concept designs of the Roe Highway Extension. Members of the community and stakeholders were able to raise issues and concerns with the project team, enabling aspects of the concept design to be thoroughly explained and investigated. For those unable to attend the workshops, the opportunity to contribute to the discussion was made available through our online forum.

Over 1300 community comments and feedback were gathered from our workshops and online forum. The South Metro Connect design team has worked hard to incorporate community feedback in the preferred concept design, where possible.

We would like to thank those who participated in our workshops and online forum. Your feedback has been most appreciated and invaluable to the project development phase of the Roe Highway Extension.

The public comment period for submissions on the Roe Highway Extension Public Environmental Review closed on 12 September 2011. The relevant ministers will make their determination in early to mid 2012.
