Make a difference. Be Involved. Get online NOW!

South Metro Connect invites the community to get online and join our discussion forum to be part of the project decision making process. We want to know:

“What factors should be considered in assessing design options for the Roe Highway Extension?”

This online forum has commenced and will run throughout January. South Metro Connect will compile the factors you identify to develop a draft list of criteria that can be used to analyse future design options.

Later in January a second online forum will provide the community with an opportunity to identify appropriate weightings for each of the criteria. Opinions on the weighting of relevant criteria will differ between individuals depending on what is most important to them, but by combining and averaging the weightings a balanced process can be defined.

A workshop will be organised in February 2010 where the community can assist the project team in finalising the criteria and associated weightings.  This will result in the formation of a ‘Multi-Criteria Analysis’ (MCA).  MCA is a technical term for a process that people use every day to make decisions.  An example is shown below in relation to buying a car.

The MCA that we develop will provide a transparent selection process for evaluating design and alignment options for the Roe Highway Extension.  With community and stakeholder involvement we expect that it will incorporate a comprehensive range of criteria that balance environmental, social and economic issues.

Information Day Feedback Summary

As detailed in issue one of our Roe Highway Extension Project Update, South Metro Connect’s first Community Information Day was held on 24 October 2009.  It is estimated that between 600-700 community members attended.

Attendees included local residents, business owners, community group representatives and key stakeholders from local and state government. City of Cockburn residents made up the greatest proportion of attendees at 80 percent.

The team has compiled a brief feedback summary report that details the key findings.  This report is now available online.

We encourage the community’s continued involvement by using the online feedback forms.
