Project Status

South Metro Connect (SMC) is working towards finalising the Public Environmental Review (PER) document for the proposed Roe Highway Extension, which includes producing a preferred design for submission to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA). Currently SMC is in the process of compiling and analysing feedback received from community and stakeholders at three Design Workshops held over the past four months. All feedback will be considered to aid the development and comparison of design options. These options will be assessed to determine if they meet the project requirements, government regulations and specialist recommendations and then will be taken through an options selection process.

Mark Hazebroek, Project Director states, “Now that the design workshops are complete we will move into an options development and selection process, which may include a Multi-Criteria-Analysis (MCA) for certain project elements where there are multiple viable options.”

“In the meantime, community and stakeholder engagement will continue through meetings with various stakeholders and community groups and through involvement in the MCA process.”

As part of the formal statutory environmental approvals process, a 12 week public comment period, expected to commence early in 2011, will provide a significant further opportunity for the community and stakeholders to comment on the preferred design.
