The South Metro Connect community engagement team has commenced what will be an extensive 18 month program of community and stakeholder meetings and other activities to gather information and input for a sustainable design option for the extension of the Roe Highway between Kwinana Freeway in Jandakot and Stock Road in Coolbellup.

The South Metro Connect project team is responsible for investigating solutions to a complex range of issues associated with the proposed extension as well as working with the broader community to seek their input on the project.

Alliance Manager, David Azzam said that initial community meetings have been both constructive and informative.

”The spirit in which members of the community are embracing the consultation process reinforces the decision to give the southern metropolitan community the opportunity to play a key role in the future development of this project,” he said.

“Ensuring that families who want to reduce heavy vehicle traffic on suburban streets, as well as those who have environmental concerns about the future Roe Highway extension have a forum to provide feedback is what the consultation process is all about.

“There is a statutory process to be followed and we welcome any ideas on how this process can be enhanced to ensure that we do find the best possible solution.

“What is important though is that each and every member of the community who has an interest in this project gets the opportunity to have their say.”

Mr Azzam encouraged community members to learn more about the project and have a meaningful dialogue with the South Metro Connect Team about their issues as well as get more information on how they can have their say.

The South Metro Connect project team is made up of senior Main Roads officers and personnel from environmental and engineering consulting firm AECOM and is responsible for ensuring strict environmental guidelines and approvals are met for the proposed Roe Highway extension.
