South Metro Connect is holding a Community Information Day in Cockburn Central on Saturday 20 March to provide an update on the status of the Roe Highway Extension project.

The Information Day will provide an update on the status of the design development project, including outcomes from recent community workshops.

South Metro Connect has been working with business people, residents and representatives from schools, community groups and government agencies to come up with a preferred solution to extend the Roe Highway from the current interchange at Kwinana Freeway in Jandakot to Stock Road in Coolbellup.

South Metro Connect Project Director Mark Hazebroek says the project team is taking on board the community’s ideas and comments.

“Community engagement is integral to determining the preferred solution. We’ve had good response to our invitation to be involved and we are keen to continue to build relationships with those who want to participate.”

Through advertising and community newspaper leaflets, South Metro Connect invited interested members of the public to participate in a number of workshops in February and March. Workshop themes included the development of assessment criteria, which will assist in the ultimate selection of a preferred design option; and the development of design options for the section of road between Kwinana Freeway and Bibra Drive.

“Before we embark on further design workshops we want to present the outcomes of the workshops held so far and gain further insight and community input,” says Mr Hazebroek.

The Community Information Day will run from 10 am to 3 pm, on Saturday 20 March at the Cockburn Youth Centre, 25 Wentworth Parade, Cockburn Central (opposite Gateway Shopping Centre).

“Over 600 people attended our first information day in October last year and we are hoping that just as many will attend again. There is an open invitation to come along to our second Community Information Day where we can share each other’s knowledge and views,” says Mr Hazebroek.
